Report Guidelines
Instructions for filing various reports to the RPD


Child Abuse- Cannot be filed online.


Reporting person must either respond to station or meet with an Officer to complete written statement. Photographs of the victim’s injuries will be obtained at the time of the report. If the victim is unavailable at the time of the report, photographs taken by a family member/social worker/guardian will be accepted. Medical reports may be accepted at that time.



Simple Battery- Cannot be filed online.


Victim and/or witnesses must respond to station or meet with an Officer to complete written statement. Photographs of victim’s injuries may be obtained at that time. If victim received any text messages or emails from suspect regarding the incident, a printed copy of date and time stamped text messages/emails should be provided to the Officer. Medical reports/bills may be accepted at that time.



Domestic Battery- Cannot be filed online.




Harassment/Stalking Can be filed online

Destruction of Property Can be filed online


If available, provide photographs of the damaged items and estimated cost for repair

Provide photographs of graffiti, estimate cost to repair and exact location of the damage.

Provide detailed list of stolen items to include serial numbers, original cost of item, and photographs of distinctive items (jewelry)

Grand Larceny of Firearm Can be filed online

Grand Theft Auto (Embezzled Vehicle or Unlawful taking of Motor Vehicle)- Cannot be filed online.


Owner of vehicle must respond to station or meet with Officer and provide proof of ownership (title if available), vehicle registration and valid driver’s license. Owner will be required to sign Vehicle Waiver. If Owner is out of state, owner must be available to fax signed statement giving authorization to 2nd party to sign Vehicle Waiver in their place.



Petit Larceny of Stolen License Plate- Cannot be filed online.


The Registered owner must respond to the station or meet with an Officer and provide proof of registration, valid driver’s license and front license plate. In the case where only the rear license plate is stolen, the registered owner must provide the front license plate which will be confiscated after a report is filed. -In the event both plates are stolen, the registered owner must respond to the station or meet with an Officer and provide proof of registration and a valid driver’s license.



Missing Persons- Cannot be filed online. Do not have to wait 24 hours to report


Reporting Person must respond to the station or meet with an Officer to complete a written statement regarding the circumstances behind the disappearance and provide a photo of the missing person to Officers. Reporting Person should be able to provide a full name, date of birth, physical description, address, telephone number, work address, etc for the missing person.



Runaway Juvenile- Cannot be filed online. Do not have to wait 24 hours to report


Reporting Person must respond to the station or meet with an Officer to complete a written statement regarding the circumstances behind the disappearance and provide a photo of the runaway juvenile to Officer. Reporting Person should be able to provide a full name, date of birth, physical description, address, telephone number, school name, etc. for the runaway juvenile.



Forgery Can be filed online


Victim will be asked to provide either the original or a copy of the forged document and any financial statements relating to the forgery with the unauthorized/fraudulent charges highlighted. If the forged document is bank related; Victim must obtain from the bank an Affidavit of Forgery which must be completed and signed. Victim will provide a copy of the Affidavit to RPD and return the original to the bank.

Credit Card Fraud Can be filed online

Insufficient Funds/Closed Account-Cannot be filed online


Businesses should respond to the station to obtain a Washoe County District Attorney Fraudulent Check Diversion Packet (blue) which they must complete and return to the Law Enforcement Agency in their jurisdiction.



Traffic accident Can be filed online (only non-injury reports accepted online)


Victim should be able to provide:


  • Time and location (street address/cross streets) where collision occurred
  • License plate of the vehicle they were driving at time of collision and valid vehicle registration
  • Valid auto insurance information
  • Valid Driver’s license
  • Name, address, telephone number of all passengers in the vehicle
  • Name, address, telephone number, license plate, vehicle description, and insurance information of all other involved drivers
